Dynamic Duo

Thirty-two years ago, I went into labor with the twins. Yes, it was too early (6 weeks), but they really wanted out of there! I went into labor while watching my husband coach his sisters' ball team. I told him I thought we should go..so we went home. For some reason, he got a little upset with me because I wanted a bath. He had to help me getting into and out of the bathtub because I was so big and couldn't lift my legs up over the rim of the tub!

Anyway, we went to Fort Scott...not to the hospital (yet). We went to the ball park and watched a ballgame and visited with people. After the ballgame, Clinton and I went to my twin's house to sleep.

Poor Clinton...he had had a very long day and I really hated to wake him up....but I did. It really was funny...he got out of bed and was crawling around on the floor trying to find his shirt! Don't know why he didn't just turn the light on. We are headed to the hospital and he reaches over and pats my knee..."don't worry...I'm going as fast as I can" he said. Yeah right...he was going 20 mph!!!!

At the hospital, they tried to get the labor stopped...but to no avail. Since they wouldn't let me drink anything, the doctor told Clinton where the doctor's lounge was and sent Clinton to get a wet washcloth for my lips. Clinton never came back! Finally, the doctor went looking for him. Yep, my poor Clinton had fallen asleep and the doctor said he didn't have the heart to wake him. Boy am I glad he didn't. Turned out Clinton was going to have to drive to Wichita because they were going to fly me out there. The hospital in Fort Scott couldn't handle the premature birth right then and Wichita had been contacted.

So, around 8 a.m. on the 31st, they wheel me on this gurney, in front of God and everyone, to the ambulance for the ride to the airport. That darn driver hit every pothole he could which started the labor again.

They wheel my large body into this little, tiny plane which was equipped to do an emergency c-section if necessary. The only time I got really nervous was just before we landed in Wichita, we hit some turbulents and they wouldn't let me sit up. I kept praying "please don't let us die in this little plane"!

Once we get on the gound, another ambulance took us to Wesley Medical Center where they were shoving papers at me to sign all over the place. Apparently something was wrong with my heart, because they did a heart cath. before the surgery.

Now understand that the next thing I remember I was in a room with no windows. My babies were ok, and I kept asking what time it was. I didn't realize that I was in ICU and that 4 days had passed!! So girls, I took the hospital at their word that you were born May 31st at 1:19 pm!!!!

I had a rough time, but you didn't have a picnic!! They didn't think you would weigh more that a pound or two at most. They were surprised that you weighed 4'7 and 4'6.

Hated to leave you there, but your dad told me I needed to go home and get the house ready for you. I called every 3-4 hours which is why, I believe, they let you come home when you each weighed 4lbs 13 ozs.

Hope you both have a wonderful day tomorrow and know that I love you so very, very much!!!
