Why Do I Do This?

For the past two summers (and every season in between), I keep waking up around 5 a.m.! Doesn't seem to matter what time I go to bed...I will still wake up so darn early! Sometimes I will just lay in bed for a little while before I get up, but usually I just get up and try to be quiet so as not to wake my sleeping husband. I really wish I could change this habit a little bit...say wake up at 6:30!

Lord knows I like my "quiet time" but this is ridiculous!!

What to Do!

I've been playing a lot of games on the computer lately. Since the knee scope, I have finished my latest counted cross-stitch picture and I don't have my materials yet to start my next project....urgh!!!

I still want one of the bedrooms painted and I have had the paint for over a month but I can't get on the ladder just yet but that is my goal! (Man, I really want to get that room done!)

I guess I'm at a loss for something to do (given my limitations)! Guess I'll pray that my cross-stitch stuff comes quickly!

In the Good Old Summertime

I hope all of you are enjoying your summertime! Me? Well, I got to see 5 of my beautiful grandkids (thanks Debbie for spending the night) and I'm still recovering from my knee scope. I have 2 more weeks of PT. Wish I could say the surgery worked, but I am about where I was before the scope. I go back to see my ortho doc next week and will probably have another injection (yuck). If that doesn't do the trick, then I guess I will have the knee replacement. I don't think I'm asking too much...to be able to walk without a lot of pain or to be able to straighten my leg out. Oh well, I will survive this!

Well, stay cool....(weatherwise)!

Enjoying my Christmas present in June!

A great big Thank You to all my kids for the Christmas present this past December. This fabulous gift was a gift certificate for the two of us to the New Theatre Restaurant. Well, Alan and I went to see George Wendt in the Odd Couple today. We had a fantastic time so....Thanks again kids!!

Don't You Hate It When He's Right!

I went back to the ortho doc this morning. Had another x-ray of my thumb which is healing...yeah!!! My knee was still hurting like a son-of-a-gun, so I broke down and had the cortisone shot in my knee which Alan said I should have gotten two weeks ago. He was right...it already feels better. I had to keep ice on the injection site for a few hours because  my knee really swelled up. Let's see, I took two mild pain pills for my knee, had a reaction to the stuff and passed out breaking my thumb...got the cortisone shot for my knee and my knee swelled up big time....Ever get the feeling that you just can't win?

To quote my daughter, "tomorrow will be a better day" because I said so!!!!

Mother's Day

I would like to take this moment to wish all moms a very Happy Mother's Day! My four daughters (Mary, Leslie, Debbie and Bonnie) are such great moms and they have given me such pride and joy (heartaches too) in their lives. They have also given me beautiful grandkids. (Luke your day of thanks will come later) They say being a parent is a thankless job. While you may not get thanks from your children while they are growing up, you get rewarded with grandkids and I have 19 rewards!

I am so proud of my kids and grandkids! After all, isn't this really what Mother's Day is about?

Hope all moms have a wonderful day!

No, my name isn't Grace

I went to the doctor last Friday because I was having a lot of pain in my left knee (which turned out to be a lot of arthritis). She ordered x-rays and gave me a prescription for Tramadol which is a very mild pain killer. That night I took 2 of the pills like it said on the label (2 every 8 hours) and went to bed. The next morning I was at the computer (13 hours after I had taken the pills) when I broke out in a clammy sweat and was nauseous. I thought I was either going to throw up or pass out. I tried making my way to the family room sofa but I didn't make it. I passed out. When I opened my eyes at first I thought way to go..you made it to the sofa, but upon closer inspection, my face was in the front part of the sofa and my body was on the floor! Apparently when I passed out, I thought I jammed my thumb because it looked like a question mark and it was hurting. I tried to straighten it out but it kept going crooked. Fast forward to yesterday (Friday again). I had an appointment with the orthopedic doctor about my knee. Since my thumb was still hurting like a son-of-a-gun, I asked him to look at it. Back to x-ray I go. Turns out my thumb was broken (no wonder it hurt)! The doc told me I did a pretty good job setting it....yeah!!! Now I have this plastic cover over my thumb which keeps me from  bumping it all the time. I will go back to see the orthopedic doc in two weeks to see how things are going.

I really tried to do the right thing and I end up in worse shape than when I started.  Just my usual gracefulness!!

What a Week

It was quite a week even though it's not quite over. My mother-in-law passed away on Monday morning. Tuesday Alan had to meet with the funeral home people and it was election day. Alan was re-elected as Mayor of Bronson. Wednesday was our wedding anniversary to which Alan said this wasn't a very good way to celebrate it. I told him just not to make a habit of it! Which brings us to today. We laid mom to rest beside dad, Clinton and Debbie. I know she so happy to be home but we will miss her wit. I did get to spend some time with five of my beautiful grandchildren (thanks Debbie and Paul) and Bonnie, Jay and my son Luke. This afternoon Alan and I went to Fort Scott and picked up our new glasses. It's going to take some getting used to the no-line however. Tomorrow is Friday and I will be at work at City Hall.

So much happened this week and honestly, I hope I don't have another week like this one for a very, very long time.

Wow!

This is a perfect word for describing today. It is absolutely beautiful outside! I plan on going outside and doing few things in just a little bit. Thank you Jesus for giving us this day.

Heartbreaking Day

Can't believe it's been 30 years today since I had the most heartbreaking day of my life to date. 30 years ago I lost a man that I loved with all of my heart and soul. The good Lord wanted him more than I did (which is hard to imagine). However, I am fortunate that I still have all of my children and pray God keeps them safe from harm.

Clinton, you would be proud of our kids today. We have such beautiful grandchildren. And yes, I still miss you more than you'll ever know. Forever.....

Finally!!

I finally got the bedroom painted. What do you think? Guess I will buy new curtains tomorrow since I've never located the other ones (darn it). I still have to hang the pictures up, but that can wait...I'm tired!

It's Almost Here!

Whoopee!!! Spring is almost here. I looked out my office window into the backyard and my daffodils are coming up. I can hardly wait to see the trees, shrubs, and flowers blooming. My allergies will be bad, but I still can hardly wait!

Welcome to March

Wow! I can't believe it's March already. I guess I need to start a "to do" list in order for me to get a couple of things done that I've been wanting to do. I really don't need a list...I just need to get the time to complete my tasks! It probably won't happen until spring break from school. What am I wanting to do? Glad you asked! I already have my new bed set and the master bathroom is done. Yep, I'm going to paint my bedroom. I don't look forward to it because that room is huge! Alan would be fine leaving it the way it is but not me. Maybe I will post a picture when it's done....we'll see.

Happy (belated) Groundhog Day!

What? This is not a misprint. While wishing my granddaughter a happy birthday, I forgot to tell everyone Happy Groundhog Day (my favorite holiday ever).

I don't mean to belittle Valentine's Day but honestly, this day is sooo overdone (commercialized) it makes me want to cry. I have to admit though, I did spend a few dollars on a valentine for my honey (love you Alan) and he did get me one too.

I hope those that are near and dear to me know that I love them without me having to send cards to let them know that. As for flowers on Valentine's Day, Alan knows how I feel about it and actually he did give me flowers for Groundhog Day a couple of years ago. That was just so darn sweet of him.

So dear friends, Happy (belated) Groundhog Day and oh well, Happy Valentines Day!

Rest in Peace Jimmy. You will be missed!

Can't See

You all know the saying Can't see the forest for the trees, well, I can't see the road for the snow! Please everyone, if you have to get out, be careful!

Waiting

Well, looks like we are waiting on the next batch of winter weather to strike. I am not looking forward to it at all! I had Alan go to the store and get a few things so that I can "weather" the weather from home!!

Yesterday was a beautiful day although I didn't get out much. With the record-breaking heat we had then, it's only going to make the next batch feel even colder.

On the brighter side, we are another step closer to Spring!!!

Not There Yet

I finally got in to see my doctor yesterday and I was right...a sinus infection. Got my antibiotics and couldn't get home fast enough to start taking them. I know this stuff didn't happen overnight, but sure wish I was back to normal (for me)! Oh well, maybe tomorrow!

Mom to Five

As a mom to five wonderful kids (all grown up now), I still think about the times when they were little. Sometimes, they made me want to pull my hair out...and other times, I couldn't hug them enough.

Today, they all live about an hour and a half away from me and I miss each and every one of them! I'm also very, very proud of each and every one of them. I don't think I say this as much as I think it! So my darlings, I love you and I'm proud of you!!

Cold, Cold Go Away!

Bet you thought I was talking about the weather, huh? Not exactly. I've been fighting this cold of mine for a week. I am finally starting to feel better...at least my face doesn't hurt anymore (darn sinus)! Think I will make it after all!!

On the other hand, it probably wouldn't hurt my feelings any if the cold temperatures outside would lighten up a bit!!

It's a Good Day!

Yes, it is a good day...to stay inside! Man, it's cold.

I know, we live in Kansas and it is January however, just thinking sunny and 80 doesn't cut it!

Guess I will venture out in a little while for my volunteer stunt as the bus monitor. Hope the little darlings are good.

Here's a Thought

My husband said he heard on the radio this morning that the 3rd Monday in January (today) is the most depressing day throughout the year. I think if the work force only had to work 4 days a week, the depression would lighten up!

Anyway, it sounded good to me.

Being Specific

Well, I guess I should start being more specific in my prayers. You see, I was praying that we wouldn't get any more snow tomorrow. I just looked at the forecast and, for crying out loud, they are forecasting freezing drizzle!!!

So Lord, please let us have nice weather, Amen!

Happy Anniversary to the Petersons

Happy Anniversary wishes going out to my daughter and son-in-law. Debbie and Paul were married 11 years ago tomorrow. This just doesn't seem possible...where has the time gone?

Hope you have many, many more happy years together!

A Real Day Off

Today is a real day off...whoopee!!! I went with my sister over to my mom's house. We usually go over once a week and clean for our mom. When we get there...everything is already clean! We had a real nice visit and some homemade vegetable soup for lunch. After lunch, we talked a bit more then Sis and I headed home. (You see, I volunteer as a bus monitor on my husband's school bus route and I have to be home in order to go ride the bus.)

Well, about three weeks ago, I slipped in a hot tub and broke my tail bone (ouch)!Since school started back up after the Christmas break, the bus ride has aggravated my tail bone to the point that I can hardly walk without moaning!! Today when I got home from mom's, Alan tells me I don't have to ride on the bus with him this afternoon since I can't walk without making sounds and he knows how much I am hurting (he really doesn't, but it was nice of him to say so). Needless to say, I said that sounded fine with me. We are also going to go out to eat tonight which means no cooking!!

So, this really has been a day off for me...no work whatsoever!! (Remember, I did my housework yesterday.)

I have to work at City Hall in the morning, but with such a great day today (other than the pain), I don't mind a bit!! Whoopee!!!!!!!

What To Do

What to do, what to do. Ok, it's my day off from City Hall, it's below zero wind chill, and about 5 inches of snow on the ground. I think I will stay inside and clean house (which was just done a couple of days ago) and do a little laundry (also done a few days ago). I could bake something, but then I would probably just eat it and since I've lost a few pounds, I really don't think that would be the thing to do. Oh well, guess I'll work on my counted cross-stitch (anything but go outside)!

Happy Birthday Shayne!

Happy Birthday greetings going out today for Shayne Emily, my beautiful 9 year old granddaughter. Can't believe it's been 9 years since I heard your first cry!

Love you bunches sweetie!!!

Paraphrasing a Song

"Oh, the weather outside is frightful"...so stay home you idiots!!

It's Here!

Woke up this morning to the snow. Went to work in the snow. Came home from work and, you guessed it...still snowing! We'll be leaving shortly for the bus and I'm guessing it will still be snowing!

Although it is pretty, it can quit any time now!

I am ready for Spring to arrive along with my alergies, but most importantly, nicer weather!

Still Waiting

Looking at the radar, you would think it was really snowing here in beautiful Bronson. Alas, it's not. Although I am not a fan of cold weather (which we have), I wouldn't mind seeing an inch of snow...no more. Perhaps tomorrow, which is bad because I have a full day ahead of me! For my friends and family who already have the white stuff on the ground, please be careful!!

Is This Really January?

I must admit that I am not a fan of "cold" weather however, it's 55 degrees here in beautiful Bronson, the sun is shining and the wind is not blowing 30 mph!

I know this nicer weather won't last long but I am grateful for it.

The Electrician (not) Is At It Again

Yes, I admit that I really enjoy hanging new light fixtures, ceiling fans, changing outlets..etc. Even though my kids keep telling Alan he needs to hide my toolbox, this is something that I like to do. I just put in two light fixtures in two of our bathrooms (woopee). I probably won't do anymore for a little while, at least until I finish the master bathroom project (like painting). Oh well, it's cheap entertainment for me.

Been Gone Too Long

Wow, can't believe I haven't blogged since the end of May! Guess I should try to be more diligent in blogging, huh!

Our new year started with re-doing the master bathroom! We completed our project without even yelling once!!! (In case you are wondering, we put down a new floor and a new toilet.) I ordered the bath rug and still have to get new towels and paint the walls, but what we've done so far looks good!

Our calves have been sent to the feedlot in Butler, MO and we have already contracted to sell them in the spring. yea!!

We are looking forward to this new year and wish everyone a blessed, safe and happy 2011!!!
